Tim Needs Our Help

Donation protected
Tim is having a very hard time. His beloved husband fell ill last year, and the ensuing months without Scott’s steady income have been financially difficult. When Scott had to stop working altogether in the Spring, the situation became desperate. The burden of losing his husband on 9/6 has been devastating for Tim in so many ways. Can you help relieve some of his financial burdens?

For those of you who supported the fundraiser, we had for Scott during his illness this update is long overdue. We had Scott's permission before his passing that we update you and let you all know the extent of his illness but circumstances did not allow us to follow through before he left our sides. Firstly, we wanted to share with you that he passed peacefully while Tim held his hand. It was a gentle passing which is a blessing considering just how painful this entire journey has been. We are grateful for the time we got with our dear Scott even though we wish we could have had a better outcome. As Tim has said often during these last few months, "We could see the finish line, but we just never were able to get out of the gate."

In October when we shared about Scott's illness and abdominal infection, he was not ready to talk about what was the root cause of this, his heavy drinking (which is what he called it) caused cirrhosis and changed his, Tim's and the people who he loved and loved him forever. Scott hid his drinking from everyone, including those closest to him. The pandemic hit many of us hard, and in many ways allowed for the people who are the most vulnerable to slip through the cracks. After his initial hospital visit where he spent time on life support, Scott wanted nothing more than to turn his life around and fight to get healthy and stay with the people who loved him. Scott quit drinking, and he and Tim recommitted to their health. This meant many, many, many doctors' appointments, vaccinations, and new medications to replace the functions that someone whose liver is no longer able to sustain their needs. Some of those medications cost thousands of dollars just for a one month supply. The cost of fighting to live became enormous.

Scott and Tim tried to work for as long as they could, but many times they needed to take time from work for hospital visits or doctor's appointments. Which meant a loss of wages and then dips into their savings. Now with the added expenses of end-of-life care, Tim is struggling to keep up with the day-to-day and monthly expenses. As many who work in the service industry know, the pay isn’t enough, tips are your bread and butter but with all the time taken to care for Scott and also the time we should all be able to take to heal our hearts after losing the love of your life, Tim needs our help.

We ask that you share this page far and wide, to spread the ask. Tim and our family ask that you please be smart, if ever anyone has said to you that maybe you drink too much STOP drinking or if you can't, find help to be more measured. Pay more attention to your health and body. Trust Tim when he says that Scott's body was screaming for help. It was too late for Scott but it doesn't have to be for you or a loved one. This is what Scott would want you to hear because, in the end, he fought so hard to stay and get well again. Thank you for any assistance you can bring to Tim in his time of need.
