Sonia Silvan medical fund

Our loving mom Sonia Silvan is from Big Sandy, Mt. She has always been very involved in this small community, giving where ever help was needed. She served on the water board and took countless pictures of student athletes and seniors over the years. Our mom is selfless and gives to everybody she knows. Whether it is a gift for a baby, or just a conversation with her friends, mom is there for everyone. Sonia really enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and especially her grandsons, Jaxton and Jolten. She was a dedicated employee to the Natural Resource Conservation Services for 27 years. 5 years ago she accepted the rural route position for the United States Postal Service.
In 2006 Sonia was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer that she continues to corageously battle every day. Since the diagnosis of her blood disorder Sonia has endured countless trips in and out of the hospital for blood transfusions, the removal of her damaged spleen secondary to the disease, esophageal varicies, GI bleed, and Bell's palsy. In February 2014, she was also diagnosed with rectal cancer and completed 5 grueling weeks of chemo and radiation. Just when we thought she was over her fight against cancer she was diagnosed with kidney cancer in July 2014. She underwent surgery at the University of Washington. A grueling 6 hour surgery was performed to remove part of her right kidney. In May 2015 Sonia was officially CANCER FREE.
Throughout all of mom's various treatments she maintained the ability be exceptionally strong and couragous. She is such an inspiration to many. While receiving her chemo and radiation, mom worked her mail route, even though the doctors recommended she rest. She takes pride in her work ethic and she says, "it keeps my mind off the pain from the treatment".
Unfortunately, the day before Mother's Day 2015 and three days following her 62nd birthday, mom suffered an ischemic stroke. Our mom survived two rounds of cancer, and now a stroke!  Mom is the definition of a survivor (her favorite TV show)! She tells us in the hospital, "I'm not done yet, I'm getting better!"
At this time Sonia will have to take off an unknown length of time from her job, due to impairments caused by the stroke. Rehabilitation and rest will hopefully bring mom back to a working state, but when, is unknown.  The emotional and physical distress is more than most people could ever imagine suffering during a lifetime, let alone in just nine short years (most of which has been in the past two years). She has endured and overcome every obstacle life has thrown at her with a smile on her face and the determination to continue moving forward.
Our family greatly appreciates any donation to assist in paying for medical and rehabilitation bills. We are so thankful for all the love and support that has been given to us and our family these past years.

Our sincerest gratitude!
