My name is Ray Youngblood and I'm a sophomore in college. I've been planning top surgery since last October and had it scheduled for May 22. Just this week I found out that my surgeon is out-of-network due to recent policy changes. This means I'd have to pay out of pocket for surgery before insurance could potentially reimburse me.
Keeping this date is VERY vital for me!! -- I've planned housing, time off work, and travel around it. As a student, the summer is the best time for me to get surgery. Wait lists are 6+ months and student insurance is expiring in August, meaning I wouldn't be able to get approval with another surgeon.
I'm a first-gen student without much family support. So far, I've navigated transition-related care alone and been able to fully support myself while on campus, both during the semester and the summer. I already work full time on campus, so getting this paid for is impossible for me to do alone. I'd really appreciate literally anything you can give to help me feel proud of my body for the first time! Top surgery is not only a dream of mine, but also a great relief to my physical and mental health. I've been binding for 4 years, and top surgery would help prevent any further damage from binding.
The doctor is requiring I pay up front, so the sooner I can raise this money the better. Late May/Early June is the deadline.
