ITU WTS U23 World Championships Edmonton

My name is Brock Hoel and I am a 20-year-old triathlete from Kelowna British Columbia. I have been racing triathlon since I was 7 years old, and have trained competitively since 2014. I train with a dedicated group of Athletes in Kelowna, under the coaching of Luke Way.

I was named to the Junior National Development team in 2018 after qualifying and competing in my first World Championships. Since then I have become Junior National Champion, Junior Pan American Champion, and placed 7th at my last world championships in 2019, where I was going into the race ranked the number 1 Junior in the world. Unfortunately, 2020 was quite an unexpected year for all of us, and with it came many unknowns for us athletes, with no races, low funds, and no short-term goals on the horizon to keep us motivated. I am thankful to say that I was able to continue training and stayed motivated to get closer to my goals despite the pandemic, for which I am very proud. The lack of racing and ability to continue my journey as a professional triathlete has made it difficult to get sponsors and find ways to make money in the sport. This winter I worked 30 hours a week on top of the usual 30 hours or so of weekly training time just to pay the rent and bills, and can honestly say I have put everything into triathlon in the last 9 months. I say 9 months, but in reality, I have geared my whole life to this sport for the last 7 years. Having your help, big or small, would be absolutely incredible, and help me to continue my quest toward an Olympic Gold medal. There have been very few races on the calendar this year, and qualifying for this event was not easily laid out. Despite not being able to attend the main qualifying event for financial reasons, I posted a time trial time that was unable to be ignored and therefore earned me this spot on the world's team. Despite the World Championships being held in Edmonton this year as opposed to far away, the quarantine, PCR tests, and bubble requirements are extremely expensive and I would be so so grateful for any and all support. Thank You for reading all of this...and I promise to make Canada proud as I race to bring home the ITU World Triathlon U23 World Title.
