On 1st August 2019, exactly 1 week from his 1st Birthday, Davis Kendall, cheeky beloved little boy of Nathan and Haylee, was diagnosed with Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), a blood cancer which forms in the bone marrow and effects 1 of 250 kids in Australia each year. Within 1 week of diagnosis our brave boy has already undergone multiple tests and scans, surgery for a central line and feeding tube insertion, lumbar puncture and bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, 3 blood transfusions, 1 dose of chemotherapy via lumbar puncture, and started steroids and chemotherapy. The protocol for infants with ALL requires higher and more frequent chemotherapy than kids, teenagers and adults. So at just 1 year old little Davis will have 6 months at the Queensland Children's Hospital with chemotherapy and tests almost every single day. Then almost 2 years of oral chemotherapy at home with frequent hospital checkups. We are positive and hopeful for a successful treatment and complete recovery for our strong boy, as we are in the best medical hands. However, the hardest part of the journey lies ahead. Haylee will be staying with Davis 24/7 for the next 6 month's at the Queensland Children's Hospital, while Nathan drives over 105km each way between work 5 days a week and the Hospital to be by his family's side on his 2 days off. And as you can imagine, these month's will be filled with intense emotional, physical and financial challenges while they put all of their focus into facing this fight head-on, and caring for their sick baby. This family is so loved by so many, and many people have asked how they can support during this extremely difficult time. We wanted to provide an opportunity for those who would like to support financially – no matter how big or small – to help ease some of the financial burden of this unexpected and extremely devastating diagnosis, and allow Nathan and Haylee to focus on Davis. Any contributions will help with the costs associated with additional medical, daily and living expenses, bills, and anything else they may need while they take time out to care for their little boy.
