Mildred McGlotten White grew up in Whatcoat Church. She became very active in the church and over the years held many positions of leadership: Musician, Choir Leader, Lay Speaker, Lay Leader, to name a few. Beyond the local church she served as Dean of the School of Missions, Delegate to United Methodist Women's Assembly, Conference Secretary for Methodist Women and Jurisdictional Chair United Methodist Women.
Ordained in 1953 to clergy status at Tindley Temple under Bishop
Edgar A. Love. She was one of the first women to be ordained by the Delaware Conference of the United Methodist Church. She was appointed to serve the Wattsville, Virginia charge in 1959 following the death of her husband, the Rev. Cornelius B. White. She was appointed to Centennial UMC, Smyrna, Delaware(1[phone redacted]).
Returning to her church she led in music and worship and finally part time as minister of visitation in 1976. In 1980 she became the full-time minister of visitation until her illness in 2006.
Rev. White loved her family, Whatcoat UMC, and Music especially voice and piano. She would be proud of thie endeavor to her honor.
