Dear family, friends, and supporters,
I have wonderful news to share with all of you. I have been selected by my University, Valparaiso University, to travel on a medical mission trip to Costa Rica and Nicaragua during our spring break, which is two weeks long in early March. Our main mission will be to provide healthcare assistance in remote, underserved areas. As these countries are two of the poorest in Central America, the citizens of these areas may have never had the chance to receive proper healthcare treatments, if they've ever received any at all. This opportunity will not only be life changing for the ones we will be serving, but also a life-changing experience for myself as an aspiring medical professional, and our medical team.
For the entirety of the trip, our medical team will be providing a free “full service” clinic in all of the rural, underserved areas that we will be traveling to. Our medical team will consist of licensed professionals (dentists, physicians, pharmacists, and nurses), pre-med students like myself, nursing students, and professors. We will be participating in community and public health projects that are aimed to improve the healthcare and education of the citizens in the areas we travel to. In addition to our medical mission, the chance to be able to travel to a different country and experience a new culture is an unbelievable opportunity, and to help the citizens of Costa Rica is something that I could only dream of. I fully expect that as we help and teach the citizens of Costa Rica, they will also be teaching us.
All of this being said, I could really use your help on my journey to go on this amazing trip. I want to be able to put my heart, time, love, and support into helping improve the healthcare opportunities of the underserved areas that we will be traveling to. As everything costs money in this world, this trip is no exception. The trip costs $3,000. This money will go towards program fees, medicine, medical equipment, in-country transportation to the different remote areas we will be traveling to, airfare, meals, licensed professionals and lodging in a home stay. This would be a dream come true for me. I would be so thankful for anything you're willing to donate. Nothing is too small and every little bit will help me get that much closer to my goal.
