Money for Medicine

Canada has a great health care system. That is, unless you have a rare form of cancer, have exhausted all standard anti-cancer treatments, and your only hope is to access one of the very expensive drug treatments that are not covered by Alberta Health.

That's the situation my very dear friend, a young mother, finds herself in. She needs a treatment that requires two IV infusions per week at a cost of $400 per infusion for at least four months, a price that her family cannot afford over the long term. 

The hardest part for my friend, her husband, and her two teenaged children is that she knows this treatment works for her. She was a part of a limited trial of the drug and it was keeping the cancer at bay. But the trial ended, and now she and her family are faced with a stark choice: find the money for the treatment or let the cancer take its course.

And the need is urgent. So, first, I ask for prayers for my friend that she be returned to health through God's grace. But to arrest the spread of the cancer, she needs to begin treatments immediately, so if you can, I also ask  for your support. I have already donated the cost of one treatment, but I know that both my friend and I would be grateful for whatever donation you feel you can make. 

Many of you have very, very generously donated to  my Ride for Cancer campaigns in the past.   This year, in lieu of those donations, I would ask you to consider donating here, closer to home, to make sure this wonderful friend, professional, wife and mother can have a chance of seeing her children graduate from high school.
