On Tuesday, August 4th, 2020, a devastating explosion rocked the port in Beirut, resulting in widespread damage, thousands of injuries, and scores of fatalities while also leaving 300,000 people homeless. To help you understand the severity, this was one of the worst explosions since Hiroshima and Nagasaki. While this would be devastating to any population.
Lebanon had been battling an unprecedented economic crisis that led to soaring food prices and the 3rd highest inflation rate in the world, not to mention trying to manage the deadly pandemic, COVID-19.
In addition to providing basic survival necessities to families, we recognize the need to support the local businesses that have been impacted and will continue to be in subsequent years.
LebanonFiles will be kicking off the Beirut Living Needs Initiative, which has partnered with Lebanon-based small businesses and locally-led response teams to create and deliver handcrafted care packages.
Our goal is to ensure that we can provide adequate support to those impacted throughout the supply chain. Once the dust settles; Lebanon needs to know we are still here for them.
