John's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
On Wednesday, July 12, 2017, John went to the ER in Charles City regarding the pain he had been having in his lower left leg and foot for a few weeks. After a brief visit with the doctor there, it was recommended that he be seen at Mercy Mason City. The medical staff at Mercy quickly decided that the situation was emergent, and John needed to be taken by helicopter to Mayo/ St Mary's in Rochester for several blood clots in his leg.

The primary issue when he arrived at St Mary's was locating and taking care of the clots in his leg and groin. This required several different procedures, as some of the clots were estimated to be 3-4 weeks old.

Although they were able to reduce the clots, the blood flow to his lower leg had been severely constricted due to the blockages. After a few days of treatment and tests, it was decided the best course of action should be to take John's leg near mid thigh. This surgery was done on Tuesday, July 18th at St Mary's, and John has remained there in recovery.

If you know John, you know he would give the shirt off his back for anyone who needed it. He helps his friends, co-workers, retired co-workers and family with any project, errand or favor they ask of him. John is an integral part of the Charles City Police Department, as he is the communications supervisor for all of Floyd County's police, fire and medical dispatch.

As you can imagine, the medical expenses to date have been mounting. It's still not known what John's responsiblity will be until after his insurance coverage has been applied. However, we are looking to raise money in support of John and his family as they: look to make modifications around their home (i.e wheelchair ramp), consider options for a prosthesis (which may have limited coverage by his insurance), plus all of the miscellaneous expenses that they have encountered. If you are more comfortable donating direct to an account established for him instead of pledging online, there is one set up at First Citizens in Charles City.

Please consider donatating any amount you can to help John and his family as he recovers from this major surgery, and learns to find his "new normal".

Thank you so much!!
