I am starting this page for my sister Caryn and her husband Jimmy. They have been married for the past 17 years and have been best friends for even longer. Except for when Jimmy is at work, they are absolutely inseparable. They've been living on Jimmy’s income as a truck driver for several years due to Caryn’s serious health issues that have kept her from being able to work. Jimmy has worked tirelessly to support the both of them until November 13th of this year, when he injured his neck at work and was told he was 100% disabled.
On December 15th, Caryn rushed Jimmy to the hospital for a kidney stone, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The x-ray taken to find the kidney stone accidentally discovered a tumor in one of his lungs, and was followed by a diagnosis of stage 4 colon cancer that had metastasized.
Needless to say, they are both scared and unsure of their future. Jimmy is prepared to fight for his life, but his insurance through work is about to expire, and it will be months if not years before he gets any compensation for his work injury. He likely will need surgery very soon, followed by months of chemo, and possibly radiation.
I have started this fund to help cover the significant costs for Jimmy to continue his insurance through Cobra, to help him get to and from treatment and medical appointments (he lives 2 hours round-trip from the nearest medical facility), as well as many accumulating household bills that are going unpaid.
At 65 years old when most people are retiring, Jim is now facing a fight for his life. He is one of the strongest, loyal, most giving, funniest people you will ever meet. He is always there for anyone in need. My sister is doing her best to stay strong for Jim in the face of such an uncertain future for both of them.
