Help Nathan through his illness.

What is happening now.

My dearest friend Nathan has been suffering from severe liver disease for the past five years. In the last few months his condition has escalated. Nathan has had eight ER visits in the last four months alone, he has suffered multiple varices bleeds in his esophagus resulting in the banding of most all his blood vessels, he has had five extreme cases of asides (fluid swelling of the abdomen) where paracentesis has been required to drain his stomach. Some cases the doctors pulled out over four litters (8.8 pounds) of fluid. Nathan has undergone many blood transfusions, swelling of his extremities, a large herniated belly button, low platelet levels, confusion and an immense loss of strength.

My name is Shannon and I've known Nathan for over ten years now, he has been an amazing friend to me and many others. I am fortunate to know someone with such spirit and kindness. I'm exploring this format to ask for help from people who know him and realize what a great person he is. Nathan is reluctant, at times to reach out for help so I'm using his profile to ask for him.

Nathan receives a small stipend check of $700 a month and to even approach the cost of his expenses has to pick up free-lance work to cover his rent, bills and essentials. He has not been able to work for awhile now due to his decreasing health, long hospital stays and lack of strength. I'm asking for any donations to help cover his back and future bills that will be piling up during his recovery time. Any amount would help and be greatly appreciated.

The Future

Nathan is undergoing a transjugular intrahepatic portostemic shunt (TIPS) procedure on Thursday the 7th of May and, if all goes well, a lot of his ailments, (esophagus bleeding, low platelet levels, fluid buildup and confusion) should improve greatly. His family and friends are very hopeful that he will recover well from this surgery and be back to work in the shortest recovery time possible.

Nathan does want to make clear to anyone considering a donation that some of his health problems have been a direct result of his excessive drinking habits in the past and during his younger years. This is not an act of God. He has struggled desperately with his addictive personality for most of his life. Nathan is completely sober now and is very optimistic about the future and living a more spiritual, fulfilling life.

I hope and pray that anyone who can help will do so. Nathan is in the beginning process of getting the necessary paperwork together for his inclusion onto the liver transplant list which all of his doctors agree will most likely be needed in the next two years.

Nathan and myself will give updates and answer any questions during this process.

Please forward this to friends and family and help spread the word.

Sincerely,

Shannon Kleflin:
