Twin Oaks Rehousing Project

Donation protected

On July 15, the residents of Twin Oaks Apartment in Plaza Midwood, a neighborhood in Charlotte, NC, received notices to vacate their home due to a sale by August 15.  Scott, a resident, called the local news as the situation needed attention because of the vast gentrification happening in Charlotte and displacing low-income families.  After a news story, another neighbor got involved.

A meeting occurred under an oak tree on the Twin Oaks property on Sunday, July 23 to listen to the needs and desires of the resident in cooperation with caring neighbors and community members.

One week later and a whole bunch of negotiation, and each resident was given an additional 30 days to move (60 total) and a $2000 moving stipend, $1000 of which will be granted upon notification that housing has been found.

Donations are being accepted from the community, both goods and financial, to assist these 18 families in their relocation.  While these 18 families are at the forefront of THIS situation, families across Charlotte are being displaced without the resources to easily relocate and a massive crisis with the availability of affordable housing due to gentrification.

This GoFundMe account will be used to assist these families with start up costs during their move, such as utilities deposits.  All moving costs are being covered by a local moving company.

Thank you,  The Residents of Twin Oaks Apartments
