- IT TAKES A COMMUNITY TO RAISE A HOUSING COOPERATIVE -
Individuals and families from marginalized communities experience barriers to housing due to structural racism, transphobic and homophobic business practices, predatory loans, and burdensome requirements like criminal background checks, credit checks, and rental histories. Likewise, housing insecurity can increase the risk of being targeted by policing and incarceration, can negatively affect eligibility for employment, and can impact a community’s stability and resiliency.
Mutual Aid Twin Cities Housing Cooperative envisions a resilient network of cooperatives, built on self-determination and mutual aid, that are run by and for low-income and marginalized residents. We envision thriving communities: where people have their needs met, have access to support and services, and where members can build relationships to work together on neighborhood issues and social justice issues that affect the Twin Cities area as a whole.
MATCH Co-op provides sustainable and accessible housing for low-income people, particularly individuals from marginalized communities; empowers people to run autonomous residences; expands accessible cooperative housing in the Twin Cities; and creates a basis for thriving communities.
While we're working with Shared Capital Cooperative for the majority of our financing, and have saved for our down payment, WE STILL NEED HELP FROM YOU! We are currently in the process of buying our first house in South Minneapolis, and starting an intentional community takes capital.
Your donation will help us cover closing costs and initial repairs of the house to get the cooperative ready for people to move in. For every dollar we receive, we take a step closer to making our vision of accessible and collectively-run housing a reality. Thank you!
