Over the last year (2018-2019) I have been attending Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine with plans of graduating as a Foot Surgeon in 2022. My 1st year as a medical student here was fantastic, and I am positive Podiatry will be a truly rewarding career.
A few months ago, I was fortunate enough to encounter a Facebook advertisement from a popular Canadian digital media and broadcasting company you may have heard of called “Vice” (Vice.com).
What caught my attention was the title of the advertisement.
“Where do you sign up for a job as a songwriter for Sam Smith? Right here.”
The article was about a Music School, Lillehammer Institute of Music Production and Industries (Limpi), located in Norway. Applications are extremely competitive as the school only accepts 48 students per year.
Yikes! You read that correctly -- only 48 students from all around the world are accepted every year.
16 artists // 16 songwriters // 16 producers are enrolled at a time; paired with mentors recruited from the top of the music industry.
Vice writes, "Just check out this list of names:
Grammy- winning producer Tor from Stargate (Katy Perry, Coldplay)
Grammy-winning songwriter and recording artist Emily Warren
Multi-platinum selling producer Fred Ball (Madonna, Rihanna)

After reading that list...I obviously (and almost immediately) sent them my name, email address, and about 20 links to music I have produced and published.

[In May: I proceeded to the final video interview!!]
Fortunately, after those 2 rounds of text based applications and a Skype video interview that included a few on the spot performances -
I was accepted as 1 of the 48 students!!
More specifically - I was accepted as 1 of the 16 artists attending LIMPI for the 2019 - 2020 school year.
EVEN BETTER, I was able to discuss taking advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with the Director of Academic Services and the Assistant Dean of my medical school.
I have been advised and permitted to take an academic leave of absence for the year long duration of the music program, enabling me to continue my education towards becoming a Doctor of Podiatric medicine when I return!
While I am happy to share my successes related to completing my 1st year at medical school, I must also mention that I am already paying for medical school using loans and my acceptance into the Lillehammer Institute of Music Production & Industries (LIMPI) in Norway does indeed come with additional financial responsibilities.
