Turtle's Medical and Healing Fund

Many of you know Mary Davenport aka "Turtle" as a kind, loving, generous and successful Realtor.  She has many friends and family that love her dearly.  She is a ray of sunshine, on a cloudy day!  She is married to her love, Glenn, and they practice Real Estate in Alva, FL as successful agents known as "The Davenport Team".  Mary and Glenn's lives have been turned upside down recently, due to medical issues that have taken Mary's normal day life from her.

A few months ago (August 2017) Mary was diagnosed with a simple polyp and after discussion with the doctor she was sent to a surgeon to have it excised.  This was the beginning of the most horrible days of their lives.  Mary and her husband Glenn were advised she needed to have surgery to correct the polyp and a special procedure called Whipple was discussed as a possible means to take care of the problem.  It was clearly understood by the Davenport's that that procedure would only be done if cancer posed a threat and was present (possibly threatening her with Pancreatic cancer).

After the operation, they were advised the Whipple had been performed by the surgeon.  However, there was no biopsy indicating  the presence of cancer.  In other words...the procedure was for performed when a different and much less invasive operation could have been done, by making a simple excision and Mary would not have suffered so long and so very much.

The horrific ordeal began on August 5th,  2017 and continues to this day when you will find Mary still suffering with many health issues, including (but certainly not limited to) massive weight loss  (over fifty pounds),  residual life-threatening infections,  severe Anemia, and kidney/renal failure.

As of right now, Mary and her husband and faithful love of her life, Glenn, spend each day just trying to get through it.  They pray regularly because the deep faith they have sees them through and sometimes a small ray of light shines through that gives them hope!

Turtle underwent many failures during her original first three months of hospital stays and the infections she suffered have taken a big toll on her frail and weakening body.

About mid way through her hospitalizations  (in and out of the hospital), she suffered acute renal failure and her kidneys completely shut down.  That was a major setback that would now require Dialysis three times a week for five hours each session, in order to clean her blood and gain her strength back to a reasonably normal level.  She had two drains installed - in her abdomen and under the breast - just to keep up with the constant fluid draining from her body that was being caused by the infections.   The pain she was experiencing was practically unbearable.

At this point, Mary (Turtle) continues to  fight a daily battle to gain her strength back, so she can again start to lead an acceptable life.  She lost almost 100 percent of her ability to walk and has had to use a walker and she receives Physical Therapy to assit in gaining this back.  Her thinking and mental capactity have been like a roller coaster, due to the infections running through her blood supply and affecting her ability to think logically.

As long as she and Glenn have thier faith and the love of family and friends, they will continue to have hope.  Hope that this will all one day soon be just a bad memory.  The biggest obstacle they need to overcome now is the costs of this five month journey into the darkness.  The bills are mostly covered by insurance but certainly not totally, which most all of us can relate.  They  have suffered huge income losses because the real estate team of The Davenport's can no longer fully function.  Glenn has done a great job preserving the listings they have, but the sales market has also simply dried up for them; especially since the hurricane hitting Florida in August.

Meanwhile, Glenn manages her care and is by her side daily providing all the care and support a loving husband can give...but believe me...it requires a huge commitment and is an almost 24/7 job.  But he does his absolute best to cope and keep going.  The pressure of the constant imcoming medical bills and the ever increasing need to provide for Mary's daily care and living is too much of an added burden for them.

This is why we would welcome you, their friends, family  and others asking what can they do to help, to please consider donating toward these expenses.  Glenn and Mary are wonderful people that have found themselves under these awful circumstances and now they need our help.  Please do what you can by making a monetary donation;  but if you are not able to, then please continue to pray for continued strength for Turtle and a complete healing.  May God Bless each of you richly,  each and every day!

Blessings in Christ,
