Tuition for Kwadwo at UC Berkeley

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Kwadwo, a Ghanaian software engineer, and I was recently accepted into UC Berkeley.

If you stop reading now, you may conclude that I am nothing more than an "e-begger". I assure you that I am not, so please keep reading.

TL;DR
* I've been accepted into UC Berkeley to study for a Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
* I have to show proof of access to a minimum budget of $75,921 of which tuition accounts for $57,021.
* Ordinarily, I would have qualified for a MasterCard Scholarship, but it eluded me due to a technicality.
* Although I'm looking for help from benevolent donors, I'm willing to work as a software engineer to pay for this.
* If my scholarship applications go through, I will donate all funds I raise here to charitable educational causes
* Please share this campaign and/or share any funding opportunities with me that I may not be aware of.
* I can be contacted via email at [email redacted]. You can find more about me at kantra.xyz .
* If you're in Ghana and can support with mobile money, please do so at https://bit.ly/Kwadwo2BerkeleyMomo .

THE FULL STORY:
There are four universities that tie for first place in computer science in the US:
UC Berkeley, MIT, Stanford University and Carnegie Mellon University.

I got accepted into grad school at UC Berkeley's Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science with a focus on Data Science and Systems.

Getting into Berkeley was a great achievement, but it only proved to be the first hurdle. Before I can even complete processing and registration I have to show proof of access to a minimum budget of $75,921 of which tuition accounts for $57,021. Here's the estimated breakdown from the school:

Scary numbers, I know. I applied with high hopes of receiving a full MasterCard Scholarship for Africans. The grant was supposed to be operational from 2012 to 2020, however, the last disbursement was released to 2018 admits (seeing as most of them graduate in 2020). Simply put, the scholarship eluded me.

I have applied and written to a number of external scholarship-providing organizations (the most prominent being the OFID scholarship by OPEC ), but until I get a response from them (latest by June), I have to do what I can with the assumption that help is not coming from anywhere. If my scholarship applications go through, I will donate all funds I raise here to charitable educational causes across Africa.

Why should you care?
For those who don't know me personally, here's a little about myself and my reasons for pursuing this so relentlessly.

My background is in computer engineering. I hold a BSc Computer Engineering (first class honours) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.

I am very passionate about education in Ghana and Africa, particularly the task of positioning African youth to both take advantage of, and contribute to, the technology of the fourth industrial revolution which threatens to leave Africa behind. I chose a one-year programme in an effort to return home as soon as possible and get to work with the knowledge I will gather. The brevity of the programme is what prevents me from covering my costs through research or teaching assistantship.

I have served in many capacities to make this dream a reality: serving as a teaching assistant in my old university; teaching robotics  to pre-teen children; serving as a mentor in coding bootcamps  and Ghana's Python Ladies' Community ; speaking at conferences to encourage more work in this field, among other things. There are many more details on my website .

Finally...
Although I am seeking help from benevolent donors, I'm willing to put my skills to work as a software engineer to pay for this. I have limited time to raise the money, but if you have a need for a software developer and can offer a generous donation in exchange for my services, please contact me. My email address is [email redacted] .

I am soliciting for $60,000 to make this dream a reality. Nothing is too small.

They say "Talent is evenly distributed, opportunity is not". Please help me connect my talent to this opportunity.

Also, please, please, pleeease share this campaign with your network. Your act of kindness could be the difference between me enrolling in this life-changing opportunity or having to let it go.

Warmest regards,
