This campaign is designed to aid those in Houston. With Hurricane Harvey causing immeasurable amounts of damage, it is necessary to assist in the recovery effort.
The University of Arizona, and the Tucson area at large, has managed to raise money and collect supplies for the greater Houston area. Though the amount collected is truly admirable, the resources required to transport these items to Houston has been exhausted. UA athletics has filled multiple busses and still has not transported everything they've collected, while donated supplies continue to pile up. This is not a bad thing! Supplies should continue to be collected, we just need to find a way to get them to Houston.
It is the goal of this GoFundMe campaign to raise sufficient funds to rent a large moving truck and help supplement the fuel expenses required in transporting these supplies. I have experience operating large vehicles and would like to apply these skills to help those in need. (I will be joined with a co-driver who also has similar equipment experience.)
In addition to this online campaign, the organizer (Olin Marman) is actively working with University and community organizations to collect specialized supplies to be donated to the Houston Area Women’s Shelter. This organization does work that is inspiring and necessary for relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Locations are set up around campus for these specific donations (see needed items list below as well as drop-off locations). Additionally, any surplus funds donated to this GoFundMe will be passed along to the HAWC.
Though the act of transporting supplies across state lines is not glamorous, it is necessary. Please consider donating to this GoFundMe, and pass the word along!
