My Mom, A Fighter

Donation protected
You never thought you would be forced to share your story, until now. My name is Crystal, I am 36 and living in NYC. I am creating this go fund me for my Mom, Laura Deveaux who is 73.  My Mom as of Monday, April 23 was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer but that's not all. I will bring you back. My Mom adopted me when I was 2 years old and my brother at 2 months.  She has always raised us as her own in a loving home in Queens with God as her strength.  She not only took care of us but also her Mother, whom I called my Grandmother. She sacrificed as a single Mom to take care of all 3 of us, was a choir Director and big in her church community which was Humble Heart Christian Church. She is a retired PAA for the NYC Police Dept.  Now, as you know the back story , I will speed up. My Mom moved from NYC to Bolivar, Tenn almost 7yrs ago after my Grandmother passed away. She felt this would be the best, as she was retired and wanted a peaceful life without the New York fuss. Over the pass 4 years my Mom starting losing weight and feeling ill. Stomach issues arise along with fatigue as I travel back and forth to visit. The Doctors took years and finally said last year, that my Mom has diverticulitis. Which they blamed for her dramatic 100lb weight loss, decrease of appetite and the pains she was having. On Thursday, April 19, 2018, I recieved a call that she had suffered a heart attack. My Mom was well enough to speak but more test had to be done as she was flown to Jackson General Hospital in Tennessee.  After days of test and Doctors being further worried of her appearance and frail bones they decided to run further test and even mentioned Cancer.  On Monday, April 23 the Specialist confirmed within mere hours that my Mom has Multiple Myeloma Cancer. I immediately knew I had to be by her side. There is no cure and she is so far along that her bones are cracking and she can't get out of bed without a nurse. She is in constant pain and it's baffling how her primary Doctors never detected any of this. My Mom was discharged from the hospital and is in a short care rehabilitation facility in Jackson. She is too fragile to come back to NY and has to stay there for care. She also has low blood pressure, anemic and has lung disease. The Doctors give her 6 months or so live. Before I was flying back to NY, we found out how short, short care really is. As my Mom will only be allowed a few weeks there as that is all her medical covers. In order to provide the 24 hour care she needs as she can not bath, cook, go to the bathroom or perform any daily activities herself the cost would be $215 a day!! Freaking ridiculous, I know! Another option is to send her to a 24hr assisted living home which will cost $1775 a month! Outrageous,  I know! Finally, if she goes back to her home, she may be able to get a nurse out of pocket but only a few hours a day!!  You mean to tell me all the years she worked and being a U.S. citizen nothing else can be done and that her little money she has is too much for financial assistance?!?! Ludicrous! But this is what they are telling me. Now, I bare my soul and come to this platform and pray as my Mom always is, that you share, donate and help my Mom. I  just want my Mom to get the help she deserves and I leave that all to here. God bless each and everyone who reads, shares and donates.
