Englewood Jr. Track & Field Team was started in 1985 by Harold Ware and has been a staple for the youth of Englewood ever since. The team is made up of athletes ages 7‐16 that can compete in the all track events from the 100m dash to the 3000m run. They also are trained in race walk, hurdles, long and triple jumps, plus all throwing events including shot put, turbo javelin and discus.
In 2000 the team was taken over by Cherie Ware‐Powell due the failing health of her dad. Cherie Ware‐Powell recruited her close friends Eugenia Walker ‐Robinson, Alana Alleyne, and Jerome C Anderson to assist her with coaching. All are volunteer coaches.
The team runs from March to August. They practice Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 5:45‐7:15 at Winton White stadium in Englewood NJ with meets on Sundays around Bergen County.
Each year the team is support by the Englewood Parks and Recreation with buses and very basic uniforms for the regular season. Once the championship season begins the team is on its own for major expenses. The team tries to raise money for the overnight trips which includes transportation, room and board.
There are two overnight trips this year, the first trip is to the USATF Regional Championship held at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania July 10th ‐12th. The second trip is the USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships will be held in Jacksonville Florida.
The event will take place at Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida from July 27th ‐Aug. 2, 2015.
We would like to keep the cost low so that each child with the ability and talent to compete at this level a chance to compete with the best. Last year the team had 24 athletes that could not attend nationals witch were held in Texas due to lack of funds. We cannot let that happen again.
Your donation will allow the team to focus on perfecting their talents instead of worrying about lack of finances. Help us help this outstanding team of Englewood youth reach their goals of National Junior Olympics.
