Innitiative for Struggling Mothers in Tsumeb

Donation protected
In the wake of the economic hardships exacerbated by the COVID19 pandemic, certain demographics in our societies remain at a higher risk of hunger and  extreme poverty. In Tsumeb specifically, a town mostly known for its minerals in Northern Namibia, families are left in dreadful circumstances of being unable to afford their daily living due to the economic impacts of COVID-19, specifically inflation and employee layoffs. It is no doubt that this kind of misfortune has created an even bigger problem of hunger that threatens the lives of vulnerable individuals such as breastfeeding mothers and children.

Pelagia Joseph, a community organizer has been mobilizing women in Tsumeb  to come together to find sustainable solutions to their daily struggles. She has identified that there are a lot of unemployed women who simply cannot secure enough food for their families. With a few donations from the community and using personal funds, she has been working with 26 women + children to provide food and other basic utilities (such as sanitary products, clothing, toiletries etc). However, as the number of women seeking help continues to grow, she acknowledges that it is a bigger issue that necessitates a sustainable solution and a greater external support system.

Your much appreciated donations will help Pelagia start up a TO-GO Soup Kitchen that she can run from her home for now, to be able to provide one free meal a day, to struggling mothers and their children. In addition, she will be providing sanitary products, toiletries, winter clothing and other basic needs. Her mission essentially, is to create a supportive community for mothers while they get back on their feet.

The long term goals of the project is to secure more funding or any kind of resourceful support from local farmers, businesses or even the government to sustain the project in the long run. Her role as the organizer will also be to identify projects by other organizations for women to partake in.

Please assist us in tackling the issue of food insecurity in less-privileged communities in Namibia by donating to this project. Every dollar counts and we thank you for your support.
