Hurricane Harvey Hit Hard!

Donation protected
It was a heck of a storm! I'm not sure what I expected when I finally made it back to the house, but I certainly wasn't prepared for what I found. My little town of Ingleside, TX got hit pretty hard. It's devastating to see so much destruction in your little community.

On the outside, most of the front porch was ripped away (it relocated to the backyard). In the back, all my fencing fell down. Two larger trees split in half and fell- thankfully away from the house. There's debris everywhere. In the corner of the house over the kitchen, all of the materials on my roof peeled back, exposing the boards underneath.

Then I went inside. First of all, the front door wouldn't open, so I had to crawl through the front window, which was broken. The portion of wall above the door had been ripped out by the departure of the front porch, which exposed enough rain and wind to peel away the ceiling, leave a large chunk of drywall on the couch, and everything soaked.

The kitchen got the worst of it. The area where the roof peeled back left the ceiling wide open to wind and rain, and most of it came down. I had chunks of wet drywall EVERYWHERE. The cabinets are warped. The pots and pans inside the cabinets are full of water. The toaster was full of water. The dry goods in the pantry were drenched.

So so here I am, with a couple gaping holes in the roof, trying to clean things up as best I can. I was denied FEMA and have a claim filed with my insurance, but all I can do is wait for a determination. Until they make a decision, I'm just trying to pick up the pieces.

I'm a single mom with two kids. I just want to make things livable until we get this resolved ❤️

As much as I hate asking for help, this is just too much to accomplish by myself. My greatest need is a new window A/C unit for the living room. As soon as we have power again I have to try and get everything dried out completely before mold starts to form. My daughter has asthma and that would make our little house unlivable. Also, some tarps and/or plastic sheeting, food of course, and drywall if I have enough. Eventually I'll have to replace the entire roof including framework, the ceiling, the flooring, about 30% of the walls, front door and window, small appliances (microwave, toaster), and all of the kitchen cabinets Hopefully either insurance or FEMA will kick in at that point.

Love you all, and thank you so much for the kindness and well wishes!
