Tsegereda (Rose) Hit & Run Repairs

^^^^ That video was done by Bow Valley College as a promo Bow Valley fundraiser video earlier this year to use Rose as an example of women who overcome great odds and pursue their education. We did not create that video. Just as an FYI, I just wanted you to "meet" her, so I used it. ^^^^

My friend Hayley and I met Rose two years ago and she is my hero.

Tsegereda, known to most as Rose, is probably one of the hardest working women we know! The video here just scratches the surface of what she has been through in her young life, but escaping opression, physical abuse and political persecution in Eritrea was how she began adulthood.

Sadly, she escaped directly into the hands of an abusive relationship in Canada. With no grasp of the English language, she was able to muster the strength and the street smarts to escape, yet again, to safety to protect her now small baby girl.

Rose has never complained. She has only pushed onward and worked.... worked harder than anyone I know to build a life for her and her little girl. She enroled in school to become a nurse and scrimped and saved every penny she could muster while in a shelter to purchase a car to make going to school and working full-time possible.

That car has symbolized freedom and independence. a major milestone in her young life.

This weekend someone hit and ran her vehicle. She has sent it around for quotes, but so far it seems the vechicle will be a write off. (In Alberta, you are allowed to carry only PLPD with no collision, which is the choice Rose made in order to save the few dollars to keep food on the table and the lights on to study. At this point in her life, yes every single cent matters. This means no extra insurance coverage.)

We've started with a goal of $2,500 to repair, in case in can be repaired and if it is confirmed she has to get a new car, we may adjust the goal.

Rose doesn't know about this campaign. In fact, she sent me a text this morning that said....

"Hey my friend, I heard that you are super mad about my car, but please take care of yourself. Not everyone thinks like you do. There are many irresponsible people, but noone can change them. I am not mad about it now, I was at first. I am just so glad we were not in the car when it occurred."

That... my friends... sums up my 24 year old friend Rose and her approach to life. After everything she has been through in young life, she is worried about me and has such a great attitude!

Can you help us give her a hand up?
