WHY IS A BATCH PLANT SUCH A BAD IDEA?
The Air Quality Permit being sought by Bosque Solutions will NOT ONLY adversely affect the quality of the air, but add carcinogenic particulate matter that over time will cause ill health effects on both humans and livestock. A most recent example of the problems posed by batch plants happened with a similar business in McKinney. WFAA: It Looked Like a Fog...With our homes and livestock within feet of this proposed plant, we're gravely concerned for our safety.
As we understand it, the permit granted by TCEQ allows up to 600‐750 toxic fume-emitting concrete trucks through the plant each day – that’s one every 2 minutes! The permit will also allow up to 13 tons of particulate matter, a known carcinogen, into our air each year. TCEQ cannot guarantee emission control at the plant since it relies solely on voluntary compliance by the operator for 2 years. TCEQ has no daily monitoring of the concrete batch plant and depends on the surrounding community to report a violation, which would only be noticed AFTER it has happened. In the event of a violation, TCEQ has limited resources to respond, leaving the surrounding residents to suffer the consequences.
A concrete batch plant will result in many other complications in this area, as well. It will create hazardous encounters between residents, cars, school children, school buses, and concrete trucks. Loaded trucks from this plant will exceed the state road weight limit causing deterioration and hazardous conditions. A concrete batch plant will decrease property value for residents and it’s to be expected that allowing an operation of this kind will attract other industrial companies into a neighborhood zone, further decreasing property value and inviting more hazards.
Just because this area of Tarrant County is unincorporated does not mean it is sparsely populated. The site is near many private homes and homesteads, neighborhood developments, and horse farms that have been here for many, many years. With this batch plant will come machinery running at all hours; diesel-emitting trucks hauling cement and its components possibly 24 hours a day along two lane roads with children waiting for school buses right at the driveway to the plant; carcinogenic particulate matter and dust coating cars, land, pastures, homes, and roadways. Essentially, our homes and land are NO LONGER places of enjoyment, but a TCEQ sacrificial zone in the name of industry and Bosque Solutions’ advancement.
