TruFit Personal Training Scholarship Program

I'd received an email from a young man in high school asking to be set up with a personal trainer. He wanted to get stronger and lose some weight before a football event in the spring and said his mom wanted to buy him some personal training sessions.

What struck me was that the teen himself was reaching out when it's usually the parent who contacts me first. And when he made an appointment for a 15-minute call with me and ANSWERED THE PHONE, I knew he was serious and I was impressed.

He told me his goals and, as the conversation progressed, I knew the perfect trainer for him.

Then came the discussion about pricing. I let him know the price range for training which he relayed to his mom.

That's when he stopped sounding so excited. The cost would be too high. His mom was a bus driver for the school district and, since school was virtual and she was not driving, she would not be able to afford it after all. And, as most of us are working less this year, it would be too much to ask a trainer to take on a client pro bono.

At TruFit, we believe that strength and wellness should not be elite.

This past year has changed the way TruFit looks at what it means to be part of the community. Working with a personal trainer is an investment that many who live in and around Evanston cannot afford, and yet the need for health and fitness guidance continues to be essential for one’s quality of life. A scholarship program emerged as the best way for TruFit to bridge this gap. “I firmly believe that by helping even one person get stronger and healthier we’re helping an entire community. Imagine the impact that being healthier and stronger has on your immediate family. And then think about how those immediate family members are able to better interact with the world around them. Strength and fitness absolutely have a positive ripple effect in the places where we live,” says TruFit owner Isabelle Libmann-McCauley.

TruFit has a goal to raise $5600 by June 20, 2021, in order to provide personal training to two individuals twice per week for six months with the intention of offering this service to at least four people every year. Funds will be raised through sponsorship opportunities and charity fitness programs and classes throughout the year.

Libmann-McCauley and the scholarship committee will be meeting with local leaders to ensure the application process to be considered a scholarship recipient is as equitable as possible.

In the meantime, we would be so incredibly grateful for your donation. Every little bit helps.

Please share this campaign with friends, family and those in your community through email or Facebook or in conversation.
