True Friends New Back Kennel Fund

Tax deductible

In the summer of 2011 when True Friends took over, the original building was in very bad shape including frequent flooding, mold, and inadequate lighting.  In the beginning of our adventure our priority was raising enough financial support just to keep our doors open.  Unfortunately, doing any needed renovations on the back building couldn’t be a priority at that time.  At one time, we actually considered not even using the space, but we quickly discovered there were too many homeless dogs that needed us.  We had no other choice but to use the old kennels to provide shelter, safety, food, and warmth to these helpless souls.

Over the past 5 years we did what we could to improve the old, damp building.  It took a lot of elbow grease, but we made significant improvements with the little extra funding we had.  Hard work and a vision for a brighter future for an old animal shelter gave us incentive and hope.   We were also able to fix the flooding and mold issues through the generosity of our very dedicated supporters.

True Friends takes in around a thousand animals each year and lately, we have had to turn dogs away because some of our kennels are so unsafe. In the past, we have been able to save over 130 dogs in desperate need from other shelters. With new kennels, we will be able to do this once again.

Our organization uses the newer building that everybody sees out front, but what they don't see is the other building that we use in the back. The back building is the original structure built in the 1980s which served as the Susquehanna Humane Society here in Montrose. Many of our kennels cannot be used, or if they are used, we have to tether them with bungee cords to ensure that they stay closed. Some of them are beyond help and cannot be used at all.

The new kennels would mean so much to the staff, volunteers, especially our dogs, and even to our community! With all of our kennels back in working order, we would not have to turn away so many animals in need.

It has been a challenge for us to raise the money for new kennels when we constantly need to raise funds for our medical needs and day to day expenses; we're hoping this will help us raise funds specifically for the back kennels.

Please keep in mind that the donations can be small - every dollar helps!

Thank you for your continued support!

Many of our kennels in the back building are not able to be used due to the safety and security concerns.
There are sharp, rusty pieces on many of our kennels which make it hazardous to the dogs, as well as our staff and volunteers.

This is an idea of the kennels we would love to use if our funds allow.

Please if you are able, every little bit helps!
