Trudy Crane - Stage IV Colon Cancer

Donation protected
Trudy's story started in the Spring of 2017.  She began experiencing a mild cough that wouldn't go away, along with severe fatigue and anemia, which she simply thought were symptoms of the medically supervised weight loss plan in which she was participating.

Flash forward to July 2017, Trudy decided to see her doctor for some swelling near her collar bone.  The doctor ordered an ultrasound, which did show two abnormally enlarged lymph nodes near her carotid artery.  A needle biopsy was ordered, but sufficient tissue could not be obtained to make a diagnosis.  As an alternative, Trudy was scheduled for an excisional biopsy in September which would surgically remove part of the lymph node in order to properly diagnose the problem.

Just weeks after her 50th birthday, the diagnosis came, and it was not good.  Colon cancer (or adenocarcinoma) was the name of her enemy and doctors were able to confirm the existence of a primary tumor, as well as one small additional tumor in a non-threatening area.  In addition, further testing and scans revealed that the cancer had invaded several lymph nodes.  Stage IV metastatic colon cancer was the official diagnosis, and is the condition for which Trudy is currently being treated.

Trudy is a loving and devoted wife to her husband Daniel, mother to four children, (ages 28, 26, 18 and 16), and grandmother to one granddaughter, age 4.   She and her husband are blessed with good health insurance, but the co-pays for doctor visits, medications and treatments every two weeks are adding up quickly.  In addition, Trudy has had to stop working at the job she loves, working with what she refers to as "the best co-workers in the world", in order to undergo treatment.

Despite a Stage IV diagnosis, Trudy draws strength and encouragement from her strong faith in God, and believes confidently that He is in control of the final outcome.  She also makes a daily practice of recognizing her blessings, such as the strong family support she receives, tremendous ongoing support from her employer and co-workers, as well as the love of long-time friends.

Her positivity in the face of life-threatening cancer is an inspiration to many.
