Life has presented a new adventure for our family. God has led us to grow our family through adoption, and we are so grateful and honored that he has chosen us for this journey. We always knew we wanted to have children but never in our wildest dreams could we have guessed how that would come to be! This is the story of our five year journey to start a family, never expecting and not ready for the answers we would receive. Up until now this has a been a very personal experience, but the time has come to tell it. This is our testimonal , and through personal tragedy and despair God worked on our hearts and prepared us for our greatest victory...Miss Lillian Grace Trovato.
It is necessaryto start from the beginning but I will try to keep it brief. Shortly after getting married in 2012 we started to work on growing our family by one, but after a year of trying it was time to seek help and we felt so blessed to find a Christian fertility doctor that we both loved. Fully expecting it to be a quick success, the months slowly turned into years it was bad news after bad news, heartache and disappointment. Amber was diagnosed with stage 3 endometriosis. After healing from the first surgery we soldiered on with our fertility plan. Multiple failed IUI cycles would follow. We saved every penny and a year later we would undergo IVF (in-vitro fertilization), not only was this an extremely expensive endeavor it would also prove to be physically invasive and very emotionally taxing. It was in God’s hands, we prayed and remained optimistic. To our dismay the IVF was not successful. We were spent physically, emotionally and financially.
Another year went by and then the moment that changed my perspective happened;( it was the spirit speaking directly to me). A wise friend of mine and I were talking. I started to cry and asked her "how could this be happening to me of all people who love children and has always wanted to be a mom, how in the world does this happen to a good person like me? " She said point blank looking in my eyes "Why not you? Just because you're a good person and a Christian doesn't make you exempt from pain and heartbreak". It was in that moment I gave up the control completely to God, it was a relief and I took solice in his arms. Mike and I prayed together and it was then we gave serious thought and consideration to adopting a child. We started to get all the information for Christian Charities, made the phone calls and set up the first appointment. But I had an urge to write to our Pastor and tell him our story, never expecting what would unfold.
The Pastor called me immediately and reached out to a private adoption attorney on our behalf. The attorney was not accepting any new adoptive families but as a favor to him agreed to work with us. And now God's work starts to unfold...we get goose bumps thinking about it!
We were matched with a birth mother who delivered March of this year, everything was smooth and we even went up to the hospital when the baby was born, held her, sang to her, fed her and took pictures with "our daughter". Within 24 hours the birth mother changed her mind and we were utterly devastated.
In August the attorney called Mike and said "it's up to you if you want to tell Amber yet but I believe you have been chosen again and this is why. After showing a birth mother 5 profile books she kept going back to yours and saying I know this woman", the attorney asked her how " she looked through our book and said "that's how, I met her at a church in Lakeland where my rehab took us 4 years ago and she was so nice to me!" Several days passed and she called the attorney and said "I keep dreaming about her and that is supposed to be the mother of my baby". It still blows our minds that she remembered me from 4 years ago in passing at church and we had decided to go through Christian Charities but I wrote my Pastor and God's masterpiece unfolded.
It was always meant to be and we firmly believe if I was able to conceive that we wouldn't have adopted. But God made a way to our precious Lillian.
Which brings us full circle and to this point. We feel a bit awkward asking for help but we really need it. Because of the extensive fertility treatments and the costly adoption of our daughter we are in debt up to our ears. We feel so blessed and humbled to be Lilly's forever mommy and daddy and we just adore our precious little girl!
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity.
"It is my greatest prayers that if another woman who is struggling with infertility reads this that she too can find comfort and solice in the only place possible. With my best friend Jesus who never turned his back on me but instead carried me in his arms straight to our beloved and precious Lillian Grace" -Amber
There were several books that helped get me through the tough times, if you are interested please let me know and I'll message you the titles.
Thank you for reading our story and for any and all donations.
