Trotter Family Recovery Fund

Those of you who know me may have noticed that I've been inexplicably in Portland for months now. The truth is that I came here in August for a 2 week business trip in Portland. That 2 week trip very unexpectedly wound up being extended practically indefinitely under threats of violence and bogus drug charges by my soon to be ex. My young adult children asked me not to return home out of fear for everyone's safety. Because of a recent incident involving weapons and my ex's position in the community, I felt that I had to take the threats seriously. To make matters worse, after I arrived, my ex cut off my access to the family funds and his responses to my attempts to reach out to him were mocking and threatening. Unfortunately, I don't have relatives or friends in the Twin Cities area where my family lives who I could turn to if I were to return home and not be able to safely get back in the house. I found myself unexpectedly functionally homeless, stranded across the country away from my 5 kids.

After almost 6 months and absolutely no success in getting my ex to back down or agree to work with me to resolve the situation like a normal human being or even cooperation in maintaining my relationship with our 3 minor children, I have finally decided that my only option is to start using domestic violence laws to rectify the situation. My intention was to allow issues such as custody and financial support be resolved through this legal process over the course of several weeks prior to returning home. However, because of an oversight on the part of the domestic violence advocate I am working with, my ex was removed from the home the very day I filed for the restraining order and I now need to return home quickly, without having resolved any money or support issues and with me still not having access to the family funds which I will need to feed and care for my kids when I return.

I am asking for you to help me raise funds that I will be used to cover household, legal and counseling expenses as I continue to work on building an adequate, sustainable income. But right this moment there's a gap that I need help covering. Not to mention the counseling and legal bills. As is to be expected in this kind of situation, the kids are pretty damn traumatized - one of them is currently threatening to run away - and will need professional help recovering. So I know times are hard all around and so many people have nothing right now, but if God has blessed you with enough that you can help out a sister and her kiddos when they are in transition and have unmet needs I hope you will consider helping me.

Thank you and God bless.
