Help With Medical Costs From Protest Injury

Donation protected
While peacefully protesting with the Black Lives Matter movement in the Fairfax neighborhood of Los Angeles on May 30, I was shot by LAPD in the face with a rubber bullet.

I was walking backwards from advancing police with my hands in the air when I was shot directly in the face. My nose was horrifically broken and the bullet broke through the skin. The pain was so bad that it felt like someone walked up and hit me in the face with a sledgehammer. I was rushed to the hospital and treated that evening at Cedars-Sinai, but the healing journey doesn't end there, and it is unfortunately very expensive.

Even after a month, I am still recovering from not only the broken nose but also a facial fracture. I still can’t eat many solid foods. Apart from pain, I don't have much feeling in my upper lip and nose, and the scar tissue causes constant discomfort.

The medical bills are starting to roll in and I don't know when they'll stop, as COVID-19 precautions have made it exceedingly difficult to get an appointment to see a specialist for the jaw/teeth issues. So far I have had CT scans, my nose reset, and extensive stitches in my face and lips, as well as follow-up appointments (my nose had to be repositioned twice after the initial reset because of all the swelling).

I'm seeking help to recover my medical costs as I am uninsured and very overwhelmed with this debt. Even the smallest donation would be such a relief to myself and my family at this time.
