Trip to Commonwealth Youth Forum

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Franz George from St. Vincent and the Grenadines. I am very passionate about seeing young people take the lead in effecting change in their communities, their countries, their region and even their world.  I believe that the youth bring a much needed vigor and a much different perspective that can be key to solving some of the world’s biggest issues. I strongly believe that the youth must be engaged in the process of positive change from this present day, especially since they have a sense of courage, daringness, innovation & willingness that older folks may not possess. It is with this passion and these beliefs that I have been involved in many youth leadership initiatives where I have sought to be the change I want to see.

At the age of 15, I was first introduced to youth leadership, youth work and community work when I took part in projects such as a health and wellness campaign, a youth mentorship programme, and an anti violence campaign that culminated in an anti-violence march in Kingstown, my country's capital. Since then I have gone on to serve on the Student Union of the University of the West Indies, Mona; the Inter Campus Guild Council of the University of the West Indies; the UWISTAT Mona corps; the National Integrity Action in Jamaica; co-founded the Integrity Action Movement; and the Hands and Hearts of Haiti Initiative. Being a part of these organisations have allowed me to engage in advocacy, activism, policy making, social campaigning and many other philanthropic and volunteer activties, not just in my country but in Jamaica, Haiti and across my region. These activities have allowed me to gain some experience in youth work and youth development, but they have mostly allowed my passion for young people and my region to increase tenfold, but it has also allowed me to gain a deep understanding of the challenges that we face.

Most recently I have been shortlisted as a nominee for the Commonwealth Youth Council Elections. I will be vying for the position of Caribbean and Americas Representative. Over the past two years, I have worked on the Caribbean and Americas Standing Committee, and this has given me great insight into the mission of the Commonwealth and the Commonwealth Youth Council, the challenges that these organisations face in the Caribbean and Americas Region, and what needs to be done in order for young people to benefit as they should from these organisations. Running in the election will allow me to use this insight to make a greater contirbution to young people in my region; being the Caribbean and Americas representative will allow me to greater advocate on behalf of young people in my region and help to implement projects that will benefit them.

The Commonwealth Youth Council Elections will take place at the Commonwealth Youth Forum, which will take place in London from April 14-18. I am in need of US $3,000.00 to cover air fare, ground transportation and travel insurance so that I can attend the forum. Without attending the forum I will be disqualified from the election. I therefore seek your help in raising this total! All contributions are welcomed! Each donation that is made, is not one made to me personally, but it is made towards helping the young people in my region to have better representation!! I look forward to your help!

Thank you!
