My name is Laura Olivo and I am a 10th grade teacher at Benjamin Franklin High School for Finance and Information Technology in Cambria Heights. I am a Global History teacher for some amazing sophmore students.
I am currently raising funds to help students pay to attend an experience of a lifetime; a broadway show and transportation to attend!
Most of our students at Benjamin Franklin have never seen a broadway show. Through a NYC DOE program, broadway bridges, I was lucky enough to win a lottery to get 40 tickets for 10 dollars a piece for Aladdin on Feb 8, 2018! Broadway Bridges is a program that has a mission to give sophmores in NYC DOE high schools the opportunity to attend a broadway show at a reasonable price.
However, our school is in a location not near any subways or train stations. Although the tickets are affordable, transportation is expensive. I am attempting to raise funds for a bus to transport students to this show and have the opportunity to enjoy themselves. They truly work hard and deserve this opportunity.
All the proceeds raised will go towards helping pay for the bus to transport students to the show and towards the event itself to make the price as affordable as possible for our students. The price of the tickets are 10 dollars a ticket times 40 tickets which is $400. The cost of the bus for the amount of hours needed is $125 an hour which will come to $750.
I truly want my students to have an opportunity to see a broadway show and have a wonderful high school memory to look back on! Due to our location, we are rarely able to go on trips and I know this impacts our students experience. I want to try and change this and give students an experience of a lifetime! Any little amount will help to make this as affordable as possible for our students.
