The Quick Overview:
We are a small team of 6 friends who want to raise money for developing nations affected by the corona-virus. We recognise the amazing fundraising and support that has been given locally and in the UK but we are acutely aware that developing nations will not have the same support as we do. So we are going to hold a private sprint -triathlon on our beautiful home island of Guernsey and we would love you to sponsor us. We have chosen four charities that are responding to the Covid-19 crisis in many developing nations including Kenya, Cape Town and Syria and will split the money equally between them.

WHAT?
My name is Lex Stephens and my friends, Ellie Gallienne, Suzanne Mather, David Reed, Lauri Warlow, Tim Ogier and I are doing a sprint triathlon starting at Pembroke beach at 9am on the 25th July 2020. We will swim 750m, bike 20km and then run 5km, and 100% of the money raised will go to our designated charities.

WHY?
The United Nations  and the Emergency and Resilience Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have reported that with an increase of corona-virus infections in vulnerable countries where the populations are already malnourished and vulnerable to disease – a ‘crisis within a crisis’ could emerge. The New York times  have suggested that "the world has never faced a hunger emergency like this (...). It could double the number of people facing acute hunger to 265 million by the end of this year."

WHO?
So we are raising money for four charities that will be continuing their current projects and responding to the extra needs that the corona-virus has placed on these communities.

School Farms Africa is a local Guernsey charity that is partnered with a farm in Nairobi, Kenya. They work with a local team in the slums of Kibera to provide food and support education to their partner school. (https://www.kiberafarm.org/

Goal 50 is another local Guernsey charity. Their aim is to create positive social and economic members of society among Cape Town's street children through football academies and feeding programmes.  Since total lock down food parcels have been delivered to the needy by the coaches and the players of the soccer school.(https://www.goal50.com/

UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfill their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. (https://www.unicef.org/)

Pre-emptive Love is a charity providing urgent medical care to families in Kenya, Cape Town and Syria, now facing the double threat of COVID-19. They respond fast with relief on the front lines of conflict: food to help families survive, shelter to remake homes, and medicine to mend the wounds of war. They have been named a top “trustworthy, vetted” COVID-19 responder in a watchdog list heralded by The New York Times and Barack Obama. (https://preemptivelove.org/)
