Tribute to Cal Bailey

Donation protected
Calvin Bailey will be inducted into the West Virginia Sports Hall of Fame on May 6, 2018. His impact on the lives of people cannot be measured. As a coach, he has no equal. He has more victories than any coach, regardless of the sport, in the history of West Virginia college athletics. As a man, his record is the success of those of us he mentored, shaped, and molded. He will officially take his seat in the Hall of Fame in May, but he has been a Hall of Famer his entire career.

On behalf of Cal's  former players and friends, I'm spearheading a campaign to raise money to commission a portrait of Calvin. But it's not just a portrait. It will be made of tiny, cut up pieces of baseball cards! I sincerely believe that Calvin will cherish this...and I'd like to help see it come to fruition.

The artist is Tim Carroll of Conway, SC. His work is amazing. This is a portion of a portrait of Roberto Clemente. The entire piece is made up of small pieces of baseball cards.
Here's another. You can see more examples of Tim's work at www.timcarrollart.com.
Can you imagine how much touching it would be for Cal to receive something like this? I think it would overwhelm him in a wonderful way.

If we move quickly, the artist can have this framed and ready for presentation by May 6, the date of Cal's ceremony. I'd need to send a couple photographs to him and get an estimate, but $2,200 to $2,500 is his ballpark estimate. Upon agreement, we will pay a 25% deposit.

Will you join us in helping make Cal's day extra special? Each and every dollar donated will go to the portrait and once we get a firm quote (Tim needs to see the picture before he can give us an exact number), I'll update the amount needed. Once we hit the targeted amount, we'll end the campaign. We'll present Cal with an entire list of those who contributed when we give him the portrait.

I hope you'll consider contributing and making this a day Cal won't soon forget. I think he'll go nuts over this and really, really like it. We might even see the Big Dog shed a tear!

Let's do this thing up right and honor the man that has meant so much to so many. Please consider a donation - large or small - to help this small token of our kindness become a reality.
