Trevor Brown's Study Abroad Experience!

Donation protected
Greetings!

My name is Trevor Brown and I am a Junior at Georgetown University, majoring in Cultural Anthropology, with a concentration in Social Media and a minor in Marketing.

Last semester was such a struggle for me because I was afraid that I would not produce a GPA suitable for me to be offered any of the experiences I yearned for. At the end of Fall 2019, however, I exceeded my limitations and pulled out my highest GPA yet, while maintaining a major GPA of 3.96!

Because of this accomplishment, this semester I was granted the amazing opportunity to study abroad in London at the Queen Mary University of London, where I will be conducting ethnographical research on social media identity, and working closely with the marketing team of the Institute of Business. While doing this, I am also taking a few courses at QMUL, all of which play an essential part in my academic career and personal growth.

Here at QMUL, I plan on working closely with the African and Caribbean Societies, cultures I feel most-drawn to because of my Caribbean background. I also plan on playing 7 man rugby with my new mates out here in London, a sport I loved to play in high school at KIPP NYC College Prep. Off-Campus, I also have a few life-changing opportunities within my grasp... *fingers crossed!*

Your contribution to my campaign will surely help a great deal as I am not allowed to work in London under a student visa. The contributions from the campaign will go directly to paying my housing fee at QMUL. Currently, the fee is 3268.94 pounds ($4,263.22) and is due on February 12, 2020. Without this housing from the university, I will no longer be able to live and study in London for the remainder of the semester, invalidating my credits at Queen Mary University of London, and keeping me a semester back at Georgetown University... THIS CANNOT HAPPEN.

As a 2020 Gilman Scholar Alternate, and an upcoming book author, managing my coursework in the UK may deem a struggle, especially as I wind down on finding an internship for the Summer. Nonetheless, I am excited to see what this new life in London will bring to me, and I am more than grateful for the opportunities, experiences, and lessons coming my way.

For a long time, I always saw the number 6 as a representation of love, peace, and understanding. But because we are taught to see the symbol holding negative connotations, the number is overlooked.

My main career goal is to provide safe spaces for demographics that are stigmatized and oppressed, to live in liberation. Through opportunity and service-driven innovation, I plan on increasing representation and visibility for marginalized communities with all of my studies, work experiences, and experiential and entrepreneurial endeavors.

To support my goal and my study abroad experience, I ask that you donate $6 (4.57 pounds).  Despite this, any contribution is greatly appreciated!

To keep track of my Study Abroad Experience, subscribe to my Youtube Channel where I will post videos and vlogs about studying, exploring, and living in the United Kingdom! In other forms of contact, feel free to message me on LinkedIn.

Thank you so much once again!
