Trekking For The Troops

This September the men of the Zeta Xi chapter of Sigma Nu will embark on the 6th annual Trekking for the Troops. Since this philanthropy began in 2012, we have raised over $65,000 for The Pathway Home and we are determined to continue this legacy.
The Pathway Home is a center that focuses on providing resources and support for soldiers suffering from PTSD and other post-battle ailments. Located in Yountville, the Pathway Home has served countless warriors and their families cope with combat-related stress, PTS, and mental issues arising from Traumatic Brain Injuries.
In an effort to show solidarity for the physical duress that soldiers endure as well as symbolize the long, difficult journey of returning home, we will trek along the John Muir trail in Northern California. Starting September 10th, we will cover over 100 miles in 9 days, culminating the journey by summiting Mount Whitney, the tallest peak in California and the continental United States, in honor of our forgotten veterans.
Every year countless soldiers come home and struggle to transition back into civilian life. Without adequate support many veterans find themselves losing hope, feeling alienated, and worrying that they have no control over their lives:
-One third of soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan experience some degree of Post Traumatic Stress or Traumatic Brain injury
-In the next 24 hours, an average of 18 veterans will commit suicide
-More active duty soldiers died by their own hand than in combat in 2012
We have made it our mission to raise awareness of these startling statistics and to acknowledge the great sacrifice our veterans make.
