is a non-profit organization started in September of 2018 by 2 girls living in Luanda, attending Luanda International School, that are raising funds to help relieve Angola’s traumatic past. The team consists of Ella (17 years old) from Norway and Jenna (18 years old) from South Africa. There is a deadly threat that still remains in Angola long after the war – LANDMINES!
Trek4aid wants to help change that and also empower women in the process!
Angola remains one of the densest landmine populated countries in the world! As a result of the war that ended in 2002, as many as 500,000 landmines
unfortunately still remain. Most of the landmines are located in rural areas,
where communities rely heavily on subsistence agricultural activities such as growing vegetables and grazing cattle to support their families
. The remaining landmines cause death, as people of the community try to use the land around them for farming.
Halo is the organisation that we will be assisting
, by raising funds to donate to their “Halo 100 Women in Demining”
This project is aimed at training and enabling local women
to assist in the removal of remaining landmines.
In 2008, due to drastic budget cuts, Halo was forced to reduce their staff from 1100 to 300 people. This means that the rate of removal of landmines has greatly decreased. Trek4aid, with your help, is going to help fund this project. We need your help to make this a reality!
The aim is to raise $10 000 (USD)
to help fund the processes of:
- employing and professionally training
women in demining landmine sites
- buying equipment and transporting
the deminers to the landmine areas
Thus providing NEW SKILLS and EMPOWERMENT
for Angolan women.
This helps to provide skills and employment
whilst demining the many landmines here in Angola. Halo employs both men and women, to promote gender equality among the workforce and ensure an equal voice and representation within the organisation, and equal opportunities for all, however we will be helping to fund the project involving women.
We hope to generate increased awareness and the support needed to achieve our goal.
All funds raised will go towards this worthy cause. Please support our journey for this humanitarian cause.
