Tree Nut Legal Defense Recovery Fund

I was unlawfully detained for DUI on 11.5.2017 after being bullied into speeding by a police officer who mis-identified oak tree acorns as illegal mushrooms. After calling for DUI backup, I was placed under arrest with no understanding of why until after I was handcuffed and placed into the backseat of a police cruiser. After attempting to coherse me into admitting to possession of illegal drugs, the officer finally admitted (with a chuckle) that they had "figured it out, they were acorns" just before taking me to the detention facility.

My first attorney absconded with my retainer ($3750)  shortly after I posted a $2700 bond so within 24 hours of the arrest, I was left without any financial resources to obtain new counsel until my grievance filed with the State Bar of Georgia against my former counsel is resolved. The snowball effect has created an abrupt, and overwhelming amount of debt ( though I pray this is temporary) and having been granted my one-time continuance, I need to raise funds to hire new counsel since I legally do not qualify for court-appointed counsel despite my current lack of financial resources. No, it's not actually a "right" that you receive a public defeunder if can't afford one...you simply have the right to request it.

I can't in good conscience admit to something I didn't do in an effort to reduce the potential severity of the outcome. I have always been a peacemaker and advocate of peaceable resolution, but I will not stand down against what amounts to a cover-up just to avoid embarrassment. Not when that "laughable" mistake has upturned every facet of my life. I would rather live with a clear conscience of knowing I fought as hard as I could, than the regret of fearing undue consequences for a crime I didn't commit. Thank you.
