Treatments for Wheelchair Tennis Players ITF Event

PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING A TREATMENT OR TREATMENTS TO THE PLAYERS, helping us achieve our goal of $7,000 for the massages, room and board, sheets, and other miscellaneous expenses. 

In March 2021, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) is hosting a Wheelchair Event in Rome, Georgia, (ITF GA Wheelchair Championships). For this event, world-class athletes travel from all around the world, each trying to fulfill their dreams. They have earned the right to participate and to receive excellent care for the duration of the 5-day competition (March 10th-14th, 2021).  Over the years, players from 23 different countries participated in this event.

Massage therapist Tanya Petty, LMT, USPTA, and her staff, will be working to provide free massages to every player during this important event.

We aim to raise $7,000 in funding to benefit the participating players in this high-profile event.

Why we are doing this:

Tanya has been ITF’s on-site massage therapist for the last 3 years. After hearing that several of the players could not afford her massages during past events due to limited sponsorship money, Tanya decided to donate all services to this years’ participants.

Caring for each individual and helping them achieve physical comfort is of great importance to Tanya.

Who we are:

Tanya Petty is a Licensed Massage Therapist (Georgia) and Tennis Teaching Professional. Originally from South Africa, she came to the United States on a tennis scholarship. She played out of Augusta State University and Kennesaw State University, where both teams were ranked in the top 25 in the nation (Division II for 3 of the four years). After a car accident several years ago, Tanya left the professional teaching tennis arena and pursued a career in massage therapy. She now owns Hands on Healing Massage Therapy (www.handsonhealingsenoia.com ), which has been in business for more than 10 years. She is also a massage therapist at The Thomas F. Chapman Piedmont Cancer Wellness Center, Sea Glass Therapy, and House of Light, all located Newnan, Georgia. The massage services offered at Hands on Healing are diverse, to include spa, sports, ayurvedic, PTSD, and orthopedic/medical massages. Tanya also offers massages tailored to the needs of special populations and rare diseases.

Funding Needs

Massage services

Each 30-minute massage costs $40.00. The draws for men’s singles are 32 players, 24 players in the women’s singles, men’s doubles 16 players, women’s doubles 12 players, and a quadriplegic draw for men with 16 players singles and 8 doubles. This event has a significant number of participants, all of whom deserve excellent care.

We are expecting to perform about 80-100 massages at an estimated cost of $3,200.00- $4,000.00.

Accommodations and other expenses

(Air BNB)/ hotel will run about $1,500.00 for a house for the week for our team.

Supplies

We will need to purchase the following additional supplies:

·        Massage lotion Supplies, Rock tape products, additional sheets, traveling  expenses etc. +-$1,000.
·        Players Gifts  +- $500.
·        Miscellaneous  +- $500.

*Many supplies (except lotions, tapes) will be maintained and saved for the following year and future such events, so this initial investment will carry over for future events.

We really would love to exceed our goal as proceeds will go into training massage therapists in disability sports training.

How else can you help:

We encourage you to come and watch these tennis players pursue their dreams of being the best they can be on the court. Many of the participants visit hospitals and other disability programs to offer support and encourage life beyond the wheelchair. Come and get a picture and an autograph from these remarkable and dedicated athletes!

ANY EXTRA MONIES go towards Arthurshope.com, a small part of our business dedicated to helping disabled individuals or those with rare diseases  with massage therapy. The site is currently being built. Arthur Petty is a five year old boy with myopathy and MSTO1. Bailey has dermatomyositis. We have cancer patients, PTSD, TBI patients and other disabled patients that we would love to help.
