Help Trudie Stay Alive For Her 4 Children

Donation protected
Help Trudie get the URGENT treatment she needs to stay alive for her 4 children after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour....

Trudie is a busy 37 year-old mum to Josh 18, Naomi 16, Zak 12 and Skye 9, and wife to her loving husband Dave. In July 2020 Trudie was devastatingly diagnosed with a brain tumour - suspected to be an Astrocytoma Glioma - a particularly difficult tumour to treat due to the location being in her thalamus . After much research, Trudie discovered from other cancer patients and survivors that Proton Beam Therapy is the ONLY treatment that can save her, but it is unfortunately not available through NHS Scotland. So I have started this crowdfunder to raise the £90,000 needed for Trudie to get the treatment she URGENTLY needs privately in Prague.

A plea from a 37 year old mum of four, diagnosed with a brain tumour, where the ONLY treatment that can keep her alive is expensive Proton Beam Therapy from The Mayo Hospital in Minnesota.

The only option left now is to raise £90,000 as quickly as possible, so that Trudie can get life-saving proton beam therapy treatment in Minnesota.

>>>> The brain tumour currently measures 1.2cm and is growing - if Trudie doesn’t get the treatment before it measures 3cm, she will no longer be able to have Proton Beam Therapy and ultimately she will die. There is no other medical treatment in the world that can remove the tumour from her brain, so it is a race against time to raise enough money to save her life, so Trudie can continue to live and be there for her four children and husband. <<<<

A course of Proton Beam Therapy takes 8 weeks (plus
pre and post-op appointments), with treatment scheduled over several days a week, and allocated ‘rest days’ -  the cost of Proton Beam Therapy is £80,000 for the course of the treatment.

The
remainder of the crowdfunder will cover travel costs, accommodation and living expenses for a 10 week period for Trudie and her husband Dave who will accompany her while she battles for her life while undergoing this gruelling, but lifesaving treatment.

A little bit from Trudie…

Thank you so much to everyone for your support. As someone who doesn't like to rely on others, I wouldn’t normally ask people for help, but after being diagnosed with the brain tumour (which NHS Scotland said was inoperable and there was nothing more they could do), my only option left was to seek alternative treatments elsewhere which has led me to the only option, which is getting private treatment abroad. I will do whatever it takes to be alive and be there for my four children to watch them grow up. I am absolutely determined to beat this thing, but that is only possible if I can raise the money required to get private treatment in Prague.

When I was first diagnosed with a brain tumour in July last year, I was devastated. The doctors told me it was inoperable, that chemotherapy wasn’t an option, as along with attacking the cancer cells the chemo would also destroy the healthy cells surrounding the tumour which are vital parts of my brain. Proton Beam Therapy is a targeted precision laser therapy that has had successful results in eliminating tumours in difficult to reach areas such as within the brain – but this treatment is unavailable through NHS Scotland therefore I was forced to look further afield including America as well as Prague with my only option being to pay for it privately.

This is my battle now - to raise the money. To pay for treatment. To stay alive. So I can watch my children grow up, grow old with my husband, breath, live, survive!

I want to see my eldest son Josh graduate from university as he has just received an unconditional offer from St Andrews and I am so very very proud.

I want to see Naomi finish High School and follow her dreams and ambitions. As her mum I want to help her navigate her way, make good decisions and be a role model to her.

Then there is Zak who is profoundly autistic, and needs round-the-clock supervision and care. He will need extra support for the rest of his life, and without me around, I don’t know who else will be there for him?

Last but not least is Skye, my wonderfully brave, courageous daughter who just so happens to be transgender. I fear for her growing up without me there to fight her corner in such an often horrible world. I need to be here to protect her, and make sure she is safe.

I feel cheated out of time – I only met my husband Dave six years ago, after being in a violent and abusive relationship for many years which left me with PTSD, but I’ve finally found real genuine love. This is when I think how unfair life is. When you've been through so much over all the years then think you've got your happy ever after then boom - an inoperable brain tumour diagnosis then takes all that away from you.

Dave has sacrificed so much to look after me since I was diagnosed with my brain tumour. He left his beloved job as a senior staff member working in a children’s home and changed to Bank staff with a much lower salary, so that he could be available to take care of me and the kids… He told me that he just wants to spend every minute he can with me.

I am running out of time…

Please donate today, so that I can fight this brain tumour, watch my children grow up, and grow old with the man I love. The longer I have to wait for the funds to grow, the more chance I have of the tumour getting to the size of 3cm which will rule me unsuitable for Proton Beam Therapy and with no other treatment options  my fate really will be sealed. As the tumour grows, it will begin to affect aspects of my life such as intense headaches, seizures, my memory, my mobility and eventually my ability to swallow and then breath. I have been told that while my body would shut down, that I would remain totally aware of everything happening to me… I can
think of nothing worse. This is the thing that really scares me.

Please donate whatever you can, so that I can fight this cancer and be around for my children and my family – the most important thing in my life. Any donation, however small, is much appreciated.

Love Trudie xx
