Our beloved friend Teena was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer almost 2 years ago.
Highschool sweethearts Teena and Charangan (Shawn) were married in 2012 after dating for almost 15 years. But her devastating diagnosis came in 2016 and since then they have been in and out of hospitals in Toronto getting different treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy. Her initial diagnosis was accompanied by strong assurances from doctors that "there are many cards in our deck"-- yet in June 2018 her oncologist told her that there were no more cards left. At age 34, she was recommended hospice care and given only a few weeks to a few months to live.
But you all know Teena and Shawn...they are fighters.
1 week after the doctors' final diagnosis Teena and Shawn left everything and everyone behind in Toronto and flew to Mexico to pursue alternative treatments. Teena has been receiving treatment there for the past 6 weeks and she is doing better. She is pursuing a range of experimental treatments from immunity based therapy to regional radiation treatments.
But treatments in Mexico are not covered by OHIP and are not cheap. As of September 1, 2018 they will have exhausted their savings and funds.
Therefore, we are reaching out to YOU, family and friends to raise the necessary funds for Teena's ongoing stay and treatments in Mexico.
Our goal is to raise $150,000 to cover the costs of her treatments and accommodations for the rest of the year.
