Shaun and Melissa have been together forever and have lived a simple life. Shaun grew up in Warrandyte and his family have strong ties with the community, spending countless hours volunteering their time. This year was Shaun and Mel’s year, Shaun turned 30, they got married in April, Shaun finished his PhD in Physics a month later and they were finally lucky enough to purchase their first home in June. Their future was just starting when Shaun travelled to the UK for work and suffered a seizure. Following several scans a brain biopsy was required which showed multiple lesions on the brain and a mass on the pancreas. This lead to the diagnosis of anaplastic astrocytoma which is Stage 3 Brain Cancer. Shaun is unable to fly home for 4 weeks due the brain biopsy. He cannot work and does not have income insurance and Melissa is currently unable to work as she has flown to the UK to be with her husband. When Shaun returns to Melbourne at the start of October he will start the arduous process of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and possible brain surgery. They are currently living off Mel’s paid leave and will soon have a limited income to cover the costs of medical bills, travel home, mortgage, insurance and everyday living.
Mel and Shaun would normally never ask for your help but are in a position where they really need it and are beyond appreciative for support and donations that you can provide.
