So this is where it all started - during lockdown. I noticed changes after I’d eaten and initially were putting it down to a gluten intolerance but after time rectal bleeding started to occur as well as becoming anaemic and just generally feeling unwell Having a hereditary condition familial adenomatous polyposis meant that the above symptoms could often go hand in hand so i continued to alter diet , start iron tablets in the hope it would get better . One evening the pain was excruciating so I went to Shropdoc who took one look at me and said I needed to be admitted. We opted to go in by car but got home to pick a few things up snd I collapsed at home - cue rrv and ambulance At hospital I was admitted onto a ward and an ultrasound was done as well as a sigmoidoscopy which found a lump that they took biopsies from. A week later my world crumbled. The words cancer , illeostomy , ct, mri all came up in a world wind Following the ct and mri they decided to do a pet scan and everything changed after that So without these scans they wouldn’t have picked up on the spots on my lung, the one in my liver and ones in my lymph . It’s now a stage 4 prognosis but one that I’m doing everything in my power to overcome Ive started Chemo and radiotherapy for 5 weeks with a review afterwards But after lots and lots of research there is a drug that could potentially help the fight It’s a drug only available privately sadly called avastin and I’m doing everything I can to try to get funding through Powys teaching health board for it. Family friends and work colleagues have been amazing so far and it just goes to show how everyone rallies around - it’s been mild blowingly overwhelming and I’m honoured to have so many incredible people in my life making this battle that much easier.
