Travis Harrison Spinal Injury Fund

On Wednesday, July 12, 2017, what was supposed to be a fun day out playing in the ocean in Navarre, Florida, wound up being the beginning of an unexpected medical battle.  My Fiance, Travis, dove off a pontoon boat into shallow water, head first which resulted in the damage of 9 vertebrae (C-4 to T-5).  He was fortunate to not be paralyzed or lose consciousness from the impact.  He managed to pull himself back into the boat in pain and went back to the condo to rest.  The next morning on Thursday, July 13th, he was still experiencing severe pain in his head and neck along with numbness and tingling in his right arm and sought medical treatment.  The ER in Florida performed a CAT scan and found two clean breaks and referred him to a neurosurgeon and the doctor found damage to C-4 through C-7.  The neurosurgeon recommended an MRI and released him to go home.  On Friday, July 14th, we scheduled an appointment with a neurosurgeon in Tulsa, OK, for Wednesday, July 19th, and we started the drive home to Tulsa.  We were unaware of the risks and dangers associated with the actual damage to Travis's spine.  The trip normally takes 13 hours, it took us 50+ hours due to Travis's pain level and discomfort.

Immediately following the consultation on Wednesday with the second neurosurgeon, he recommended an MRI as well, but could not schedule one for 2-5 days. The doctor stated, typically this severe of an injury, most patients are already paralyzed.  Knowing that an Emergency Room could perform an MRI immediately, we took him to Saint Francis. Then the MRI was performed, the results indicated high risk of paralysis and additional spinal damage.  Emergency surgery was scheduled for the next morning at Tulsa Spine and Specialty Hospital.  On July 20th, Travis endured a 4 hour surgery to fuse the vertebrae (C-4 to T-2).  After the completion of the surgery, the doctors reiterated how amazing it was that Travis wasn't paralyzed before, during and after surgery.  The current recovery prognosis is a minimum of three months with a potention of lasting 12 months during which time, Travis can not work and is not drawing any income.  The outpouring of love, care and concerns have been incredible.  Any financial assistance that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
