Trauma Suffered-Steven Garcia of 'RR Shoe & Boot'

Donation protected
Steve Garcia has served the community a long time at Rio Rancho Shoe and Boot Repair. As all of us know Covid-19 has struck us all hard, however Steve kept the shop running so he could continue his service to you. He loves the community and what he does. Everything was going well until Steve had a horrible fall from a 25 foot cliff on New Years Day. While hiking he slipped and fell a little over two stories.
Because of Covid-19, Steve wasn't able to afford to pay for his healthcare.  He was able to pay the shop's rent and utilities with hardly anything left over. He chose to try and save his family owned shop which has been in the family close to 40 years right here in Rio Rancho.
Steve was medevac'd in a helicopter and taken to UNMH where they diagnosed 13 broken ribs, a sternal fracture, several fractured neck and back vertebrae, as well as puncturing a lung which partially collapsed.
He has a long road to recovery ahead. He will need a lot of physical therapy. He will be in a upper body brace for 6 months. Right now he is barely able to sit up. He cannot shower on his own and he is on oxygen around the clock.  We aren't even sure where to start trying to rescue things. We know that we are going to be facing hospital bills, helicopter bill, shop rent, and the list goes on.  And leatherworks is not a lucrative business during a pandemic.
I am his wife. I am a fully disabled veteran trying to physically take care of him, which is going pretty well, with the help of our fantastic families.  I am able to care for myself and our home financially, but only just.  I am unable to provide for the shop and above all he does not want to lose the shop. It is the hardest thing EVER to ask for help. I fought against Steve on it but I eventually understood we had to at least try.  This  has been an extremely humbling experience.
We have faith in God and I believe we are in His hands.  I am just now asking the community, that Steve has served for so long, perhaps lend a hand ONLY if able.  And you absolutely don't have to give.  We could also use your prayers, one of the most powerful tools we have...and maybe you could send this forward to everyone you know and wish Steve the best with his recovery. It's certainly been a very scary situation for us. Thank you to everyone.
