Trasen was born with Persistent Fetal Vasculature (PFV), also known as persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous(PHPV), it is a congenital developmental disorder that occurs when the vascular structures present during the development of the eye fail to wither, or regress, as they should. The resulting structural abnormalities may lead to impairment of vision. Trasen's right eye was affected.
At 2 months old he had his right eye lense removed due to a cataract that was a secondary condition from having PFV. Glaucoma also is a secondary condition that is associated with PFV. At 6 months his eye pressure was too high and another surgery was performed. Soon after we thought we had his eye pressure under control the medication he was on dropped his eye pressure too low and caused his retina to detach, Trasen was 12 months when this was next surgery was performed. There was only a 10% chance of failure. Trasen was that unlucky 10%. Trasen has been blind in his right eye ever since. He has a strabismus (lazy eye) in his right due to only having vision for about 4 months of his life. His Right eye is also smaller since it never developed properly in the womb and then losing his vision it will no longer grow at the rate his left eye does.
Trasen is almost 5 and We have been working with an eye prosthesis specialist and have been wearing a conformer to prepare for a scleral shell which will not only look like his left eye but also help his supraorbital arch (eye brow bone) be more symmetrical to the left side.
The reason we are starting this gofundme is because Trasen no longer qualified for Medicaid. His current insurance won't cover any medical equipment until we reach our deductible, and after that only 80% of medical equipment and surgery are covered.
Trasen's appointment to have his scleral shell is in May and we need $2,005 for that. For a strabismus surgery in the state of Utah ranges from 7,000 to 9,000 without the doctor bill. We will be having this surgery after Aug. And are hoping we will only need 20% of the surgery cost.
All proceedings are going to pay for his scleral shell and medical expenses for surgeries. Anything helps, thank you so much!
