Transportation for Stephen

My name is Gloria Castano, I am the proud mother of Stephen Castano. Stephen was born on June 22,1989. A healthy and beautiful boy, he is our pride and joy. Stephen had a normal childhood until he was 3 years old, when he was diagnosed with Morquio Syndrome. Our lives collapsed when we heard the news, but we were determined to make the best that Stephen could be. Stephen had to go through a number of surgeries to get his neck and head well supported on his body, his body did not develop the same way other children develop, due to his syndrome he has small stature, and his short neck became a problem when it came to his breathing. In 2001 while on vacation Stephen acquire pneumonia, he was hospitalized in July 4th in Charlotte , NC, from there he was transferred to Hackensack , NJ (where we live). While in the hospital he suffered a stroke. The doctors' prognosis were not very good and they told me and his father to be prepared for the worse. He had to go through another serie of surgeries including the tracheotomy to help him to breath and a surgery to remove the blood clot from his brain. Stephen remained in coma until April 2002 when he finally woke up!!! Stephen is a warrior, he is a fighter, he is in love with life! He fought his syndrome, his pneumonia, the stroke and the doctors prognosis with all the strength of his being. To date Stephen remains on a respirator and since 2001 he has been wheelchair bound, but his spirit and love for life have not changed in one bit. Stephen has overcome a lot of obstacles in his life. I want to establish this campaing for Stephen because he is in need of a minivan that is handicapped accessible, the aproximate price for this minivan is $55,000.00. Stephen likes to sing and he is also a song composer, and a writer, we would like to have him to publish some of his work as a composer. The rest of the money will be utilized to get a couple of the books that he writes edited and published. The impact of this campaing will have are: Stephen's quality of life will improve, he will be able to visit places where has never been before. The other impact is that if his composition work are published a lot of people will understand the many blessings they have in their lives. If the campaing doesn't reach the goal, we will use the amount we raise for one of his needs.
