Transportation for Josh's Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
Dear Community,

Rashelle Brooks needs our help! Rashelle is the owner of Mac & Cheese Ministry, a single parent of a child who is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment for leukemia, and a member of my program. Last Friday a distracted driver crossed the center line and hit her head-on totaling her only source of transportation that was paid off.  She was on her way to her son Josh’s chemo appointment in Winston-Salem.  Josh is undergoing intense treatment for his second cancer recurrence and is scheduled to continue treatment until 2020.  During this last treatment, Rashelle lost her job and due to the treatment regimen, she has become Josh’s full –time caregiver.  You see, Josh has multiple appointments each week and sometimes requires long hospital stays—which make it difficult since there is no transportation from Greensboro to Winston-Salem.  As a person that has been through taking care of a loved one in cancer treatment, I can attest to the likelihood of needing to rush the loved one to an impromptu doctor’s appointment or the emergency room — it’s a roller-coaster ride.

While the insurance company is currently assessing the damage to her 2010 Hyundai and will write her a check for the value of her car, it will not be nearly enough to purchase a reliable, running car that does not have a car payment attached (which will be impossible without her having a job).  At the current time, they are living on disability and any additional expense means they go without something that is a necessity.

As a business owner of Mac & Cheese Ministry, Rashelle has already displayed her generosity to our community. Her business started when she began feeding the homeless community mac and cheese a couple of times a week. Soon, other people started to show up and offer to pay for the product, which sparked her business. Before her son became ill and the business stalled, she still took time to feed our homeless community on a regular basis. My hope is that our community can come together and help her in her time of great need. Even if everyone donated $5 that would go a really long way to help her get a reliable car that will be essential to helping her and her family get through this very stressful and overwhelming time.

The need is also very TIME SENSTIVE as we foresee her having to turn in her rental car as early as May 31st. Thank you in advance for showing her the support and love that will sustain her and her family during this time of need.
