Transport and Rehome our Doggo

Meet Lai-Cha! She is our 3 year old Shiba Inu. Lai-Cha is a beloved member of our 6 person family! We are Mark & Joy Kwong, and we (plus our 4 kids) live/work in China. At the moment, we have been evacuated back to America due to the ongoing pandemic, or the Covid19 situation.

All 4 of our kids (11-21y) have a special bond with Lai-Cha, she brings the peace to our home because she puts up with every poke and hug whether we are rowdy or sad. She makes us laugh when she runs after birds and she lets us use her as a pillow during family movie nights... She is everyone's best friend!

Right now, Lai-Cha is staying in a pet-shop (in China!) that boards pets while owners take short trips out of town. This means she is in a small cage that she only leaves twice a day for walks. :( She has been there since mid-January when we dropped her off to take a 2 week trip. Then all of a sudden COVID hit.

While we were traveling outside of China, we got news about the virus and the problems happening in Wuhan. Although our home in China is far from there, our employers would not approve us to return because the risks were too high. We had to leave our doggo there. We were not even able to return to China to get more clothes or essentials like medical records. After a few weeks it became clear that we had to return to America. Today we are STILL waiting for the various travel bans and visa restrictions to be lifted, that would allow us to return to our home and work in China. Things change every day, sometimes we think we might get to return in just a few weeks, but we thought that in Jan. 2020... The truth is that we simply don't know, it may very well take another 12 months (or longer)  before we can get back.

We never wanted our best friend to stay in a cage longer than the 2 weeks we planned for. It's been a full 9 months now. That cannot be good for Lai-Cha's  health or her spirit! We love her way too much to allow her to continue to remain stuck in a cage - just so we can 'keep her as ours' - while we don't know for sure when we will be allowed to return to her. It breaks our heart for her to be sitting in that pet shop with no love and hugs, no chance to run in the grass, and no kids to play with... Therefore, we made the impossible choice to find a new home for Lai-Cha. We have asked a local friend to help us relocate Lai-Cha to a nearby dog rescue facility that has agreed to help find a loving and caring family to adopt her.

We have been sending $200/mo tothe pet-shop in China to board her. With all of the unexpected relocating expenses (replacing clothes, homeschool books,  and documents all left behind - renting/furnishing an apartment, etc.), we do not have any extra to pay the added expenses for moving & rehoming Lai-Cha... We are raising funds to transfer Lai-Cha to a more humane facility (where she will have a huge property with grass and other dogs to run with, kind care takers that we know and trust, and large indoor kennels for rainy days and sleeping) and to pay for her care until a new family can be found, vetted, and eventually adopt her. We would also like to raise enough funds to transport her to her new family in the event that they are not close enough to pick her up themselves.

The funds will cover her monthly expenses (the facility, food, vet care, flea/heart-worm meds) for 4 months, her transportation to the facility, and transport to her new family. We need these funds as soon as possible in order to get her moved out of the tiny cage she's been waiting in, for 9 months, since we were forced to evacuate!!

We are hoping and praying that her new family can be found by February 2021. That will be just over 1 year from when we dropped her off at the pet-shop/boarding place. Thank you so much for helping us to do the right thing for our sweet Lai-Cha!!
