I am Harvey Sindima, Professor of Philosophy and Religion at Colgate University, Hamilton, New York. I am a clergy person from Malawi, Africa. I am the Founder of Blantyre North Relief Project, a Malawi Government Registered NGO (a non-profit tax-exempt institution, Registration TR/INC 4896).

I am appealing for your generosity to raise $676,491 to help families suffering from the devastation of cyclone Idai, the first most power cyclone to hit southern Africa. The cyclone destroyed lives, homes, property, and crops in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi. I am seeking help for the hardest hit families in Blantyre district which is 581km (361 ml.) from Port Beira on the Indian Ocean in Mozambique, where Idai made landfall.  Idai left thousands in dire need of food, housing, and malaria medicines due to pools of water along the path of the cyclone. The victims of Idai are living a very hard and miserable life. They need assistance immediately.

My goal is $238,491.00 to purchase construction materials for 50 homes destroyed by cyclone Idai in Blantyre North. The homes (35 sq. m.; 376.7 sq. ft.) will be built free of charge by Blantyre North Relief Project,  BNRP is the only NGO  that builds homes for free for orphans, the elderly,  and the helpless  in Blantyre North, There is no organization  Each home will cost $4,769.82 in materials:
30 Roofing iron sheets
11 kg. iron sheet  nails
12 kg wire nails
39 6x4; 30 2x4 roofing wood
4,500 Burnt Adobe bricks
35 bags cement
5 trips  sand by a 5-metric ton truck
5 doors; 5 door frames, 5 locks
5  window frames, 5 windows. 10 hinges, 40 window pane, 40 kg potty
8 bags lime (whitewash)
Cost of transporting materials to the construction site

Idai has made people destitute. In addition to destroying homes, the cyclone washed away fields and crops almost ready for harvest. There will be no harvest until April next year. We are seeking $240,000 for food for 1,500 families for 12 months. This is only $34.00 a month to buy a 90kg (198.6 lbs) bag of maize for cornmeal, the staple ($14.00), plus $20.00 for vegetables, legumes, and fish per a family of six.

BNRP needs $30.000 for prevention, testing, and antimalarial drugs to reduce the occurrence of malaria cases. The incidents of malaria have increased since Idai.   Blantyre north has a high malaria prevalence area where people suffer malaria attacks at least twice a year. To reduce cases of malaria BNRP needs:
2,000 insecticide treated mosquito nets @ $4.50 per unit for children under 5 years and pregnant mothers.
Rapid malaria test equipment (Para Sight F Test or Optimal Assay kit @ $3.00 per unit (of 25 tests)
Rapid malaria check in pregnancy (smart check malaria P. F. Cassette) @ $1.50 per 25 cassettes
Treatment Artemisinin @ $5.60 per dosage, per adult
Chloroquine 100 mg $0.10 per tablet, 5 tablets for course of treatment

BNRP is a Government registered health provider under the Medical Practitioner Act and Dentist Regulation (license MC/C/309).

BNRP is a member in good standing of the Council for Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi (Registration 01/087), a Malawi Government oversight agency over local and international NGOs.

One hundred percent of your contribution will go directly towards home construction, food, and malaria medicines. There will be no overhead expenses as BNRP has its own construction crew. No official or staff of BNRP will benefit in any shape or form from the donations. All donations will be deposited via  wire-transfer into the account of Blantyre North Relief Project  at Standard Bank of Malawi, Corner of Glyn Jones and Victoria Ave, Blantyre, Malawi.   Questions concerning donations or projects contact:

You will receive monthly updates with pictures of the construction progress. Should you donate money for a home, a picture of the home and the family will be sent to you as a token of our appreciation. Better yet, we will be happy to welcome you in Malawi to see the homes and meet the people whose lives you transformed.

Please donate for homes, food, and to decrease malaria cases. No donation is too small. Thank you very much for your generosity. Your kindness is deeply appreciated.
